Social Distancing From The Neurological Perspective

The recent COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in billions across the globe practicing social distancing. We know that social interaction is critical for cognitive development, but to what extent can social distancing affect our brains? A recent study published in the journal Trends in Cognitive Sciences details a number of complications which have arisen as a consequence of social distancing. Its authors concluded that social stimulation increases reasoning and memory abilities, but without proper interaction hormones are thrown out of balance. Acute feelings of loneliness can even hinder the immune system's ability to fight off diseases.
